I'm teaching a private drawing class, where each student must have their own "point" light source. That rules out most of the lamps that are panel-based (meaning rectangular, large-ish flat LED panel), which seems to be the fashion now.I was getting frustrated searching through the thousand or so lamps here on Amazon, but on the *very last page* of the search results, I came upon this lamp. It looked great, and I loved the innovative design. In addition, the price was among the lowest here on Amazon.I received the lamp, and it truly exceeded my expectations... in fact, it totally blew away my expectations. It is all metal, the stand is properly weighted, the magnet ball truly works perfectly, and the levels of light are simply great for my purpose (a point-source for light is important for drawing forms). The USB recharge is great, since we won't need to have power cords strung all over the place. Most of all, it is quite elegant! The design is quite sculptural. My wife liked it immediately – so much so that we're ordering a second one for her. This will be the lamp that I will *insist* that my students buy.One rather humorous thing: when I set it up, I tried to turn it on by just touching the shroud (it comes charged a bit, which is important for battery health – you never want a rechargeable battery to go fully dead). It seemed iffy and inconsistent, but I got it to work by touching it with two fingers half way up the shroud. "Oh well," I thought – "at least it works." Then I pulled the head off to charge it (again – genius that you only charge the head) and saw the typical power icon on one side – I had to laugh at myself. So there's an actual "hot spot" that you touch to turn it on/off and cycle through the three light levels. Fantastic that there's no physical switch!It is absolutely a delightful lamp at a truly incredible price for what you get. And to make it even more satisfying, they sell this same lamp at Staples in black for roughly $50. This price on Amazon is simply just a steal. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
