Francisco Clemente still recalls the scent of Spanish cedar and cypress growing up in Huelva, Spain. At an early age, his grandfather taught him to appreciate the beauty of trees and how to work with wood. Eventually, Francisco learned the art of furniture making.
Today, Francisco is a distinguished master turner of local Hawaiian woods. He delights in the unusual forms combining turning and carving.
Francisco carved this beautiful vessel from a Koa stump that Martin & MacArthur craftsmen had harvested from an old Koa tree that fell during a storm. Small cracks in the Koa formed when the old tree fell, hitting the ground. Francisco delicately filled these tiny cracks with bronze to highlight the history of this beautiful Hawaiian Koa.
