No assembly needed.Lamp is mostly metal and a convenient design. As received, the lamp socket was loose and wobbly. The socket is attached to an internal bracket with 2 screws. One screw was missing it's nut and the other screw's nut was ready to fall off. I replaced the missing nut and added lockwashers to both screws. It should be acceptable now.This is a beautiful desk lamp. It is very sturdy and well made. I love that it is made of just metal and wood, without plastics (with the exception of the cord and plug). I am happy with the neutral gray color of the lamp and the light shade of the wood, it is aesthetically pleasing goes very well with everything. It is minimal and simple, yet beautiful. it looks even better in person than here online in the pictures.
